New Korean skincare products [January 2021 – Week 2]

Given the sheer amount of Korean beauty products launching every month, it’s hard to keep up with what’s new in K-Beauty. To help you navigate the complex world of Korean Beauty, every week I break down the hottest beauty launches coming from Korea.

Unlike with my monthly posts on K-Beauty bestsellers, you won’t find any link to purchase these products as they just became available in Korea.

But without further ado, here are the latest Korean skincare offerings of the week! Don’t forget to check out this week’s make-up launches as well.

The History of Whoo – Hwanyudongango Special Edition

The History of Whoo launched a new limited edition set to celebrate the new year. With an elegance that expresses noble and sincere devotion, the “Hwanyudongango Special Edition” is a gift set fit for a modern-day queen. In particular, the box containing the set was decorated with luxurious gold designs inspired by classic embroidery themes, where peonies and phoenixes symbolise the wish for the queen’s longevity and happiness.

The limited edition contains an exclusive jumbo size (50ml) of the brand’s Hwanyudongango Eye Cream. The eye cream is part of The History of Whoo’s premium Hwanyu line, and features highly-concentrated 35-year-old wild ginseng energy, obtained extracting of the whole ginseng plant, including roots, stems, leaves and flowers. The powerful variety of ginseng used in the cream, can be gathered only in small quantities once a year (from May to September), when the nature’s energy reaches its peak, and this gives the formula an extraordinary age-defying effectiveness.

Along with wild ginseng extract, the cream also contains over 70 traditional Korean herbal ingredients formulated using an authentic method of preparation used in original Traditional Korean Medicine prescriptions. This rich formula works to repair and bring new life to tired and mature skin.

The “Hwanyudongango Special Edition” set includes:

  • Limited Edition Hwanyudongango Eye Cream (50ml)
  • Royal Privilege Cream (4ml)
  • Hwanyu Imperial Youth First Serum (15ml)
  • Hwanyu Signature Ampoule (7ml)
  • Hwanyujinaek Essence (7ml)
  • Hwanyugo Cream (4ml)
  • Hwanyudongango Eye Cream (4ml)

The new formula was upgraded using Sleeping Microbiome™ technology to rebalance skin weakened by external aggressors. The “Water Sleeping Mask EX” also contains an exclusive Probiotics Complex derived from 23.8 billion Green Tea Probiotics (AP’s patented ingredient: No. 10-2011-0056468), that strengthens the skin defense and boosts the brightness and clarity of tired skin.

Lastly, the latest edition of the “Water Sleeping Mask” also contains Vegetable Squalane extracted from sugar cane to deeply hydrate skin during the night.

“Water Sleeping Mask EX” is the first Korean beauty product to receive an eco-friendly certification by Carbon Trust. Clean beauty brand Sioris launched “Enriched by Nature Cream“, a brightening cream that delivers intense hydration and radiance to dry and lackluster skin.

The highly-moisturising formula contains 8% Organic Shea Butter and 1% Organic Baobab Tree Seed Oil, which form a protective layer on skin to increase moisture retention and provide an excellent moisturising effect for very dry skin. In addition, Phytosphingosine, a substance that induces the synthesis of ceramides, and Ceramide NP are formulated to help provide care for the natural health of the skin barrier. Lastly, Organic Green Tea Water from Boseong (Jeonnam), contains catechins and B vitamins, which help soothe troubled skin and protect skin from irritation.

“Enriched by Nature Cream” received a COSMOS certification for Natural and Organic Cosmetics.

Minimalist beauty brand Needly announced the launch of “Mild Cleansing Balm“, an all-in-one cleanser that covers both steps of the double cleansing process.

The “Mild Cleansing Balm” gently deep cleanses skin irritated by mask-wearing, make-up and pollution, and leaves it hydrated and soft without feeling tight.

The cleanser contains fermented camellia seed oil, an ingredient obtained using a patented bio-emulsification technology. The fermented oil acts as a natural surfactant with fine particles that effectively dissolve excessive sebum, prevent the formation of whiteheads and hydrate the skin at the same time.

The Korea Dermatology Research Institute confirmed the product’s efficacy in improving whiteheads through human clinical trials. After just one application, the institute observed that the number of whiteheads decreased by an average of 6.26, for a total improvement rate of 21.13%.

Additionally, the cleanser doesn’t contain any alcohol, artificial colours, or synthetic fragrances, making the product suitable even for the most sensitive skin types.

Holitual – Nutri Elixir Balm

Amorepacific Group’s home-aesthetic brand Holitual launched “Nutri Elixir Balm“, a highly-nutritious aroma balm that nourishes the skin and gives it a smooth glow.

The balm contains many fruit extracts, like hazelnut, avocado and argania, which have been used in beauty since ancient times, thanks to their strong vitality and their excellent ability to provide nutrients to the skin. Furthermore, Blanc Effloessence™, a blend of white flowers including acacia flower, elderflower and neroli, helps soothe, moisturise and firm the skin, making it look more radiant and healthy.

“Nutri Elixir Balm” is a multifunctional balm, that can be used in place of a face moisturiser or as a spot treatment for particularly dry areas like knees and elbows. The product can also be used as a lubricating cream for gua sha massages.

Its fast-absorbing formula melts at body temperature and can be applied every day on the skin without discomfort. To avoid the sticky feeling left by most oil balms, Holitual increased the moisturising content of the “Nutri Elixir Balm” to obtain a rich formula with no stickiness or heaviness to it.

Lastly, the aroma of the balm has a deeply relaxing effect with notes of refreshing citrus, green grass and fruity florals.
