LG H&H hosts seminar on climate-adaptive beauty
On 19 March, LG Household & Health Care hosted a seminar on “climate-adaptive beauty” at the LG Science Park in Seoul to discuss how climate change can affect skin health.
The seminar served as a platform for discussion on the effects of the rapidly changing climate on skin health while exploring potential intersections between climate change and the beauty industry. The event, titled “Changing Climate, Evolving Beauty“, was attended by 100 professionals, including climate experts, dermatologists, beauty industry professionals, and influencers.
Climate change and skin health
Key speakers included Professor Jeong Su-jong (정수종) from Seoul National University Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSES) and professor Lee Dong-hoon (이동훈) from the Department of Dermatology of Seoul National University Hospital, pharmacist and webtoon artist Lee Sol (이솔), and CEO Park Se-yong (박세용) of the search intelligence company Listening Mind (리스닝마인드) who discussed the impact of rising UV radiation and temperatures on skin aging.
Professor Jeong Su-jong, who delivered the keynote address, stated that “the climate crisis, now a tangible reality, will set the ‘new standard’ for all consumer goods” and emphasised the necessity for companies to adapt to the changing demands of consumers influenced by climate change, by investing in scientific research and the development of innovative technologies. The attendees recognised the urgent need for innovative beauty solutions to address the impacts of climate change, particularly as environmental factors, such as increased UV radiation and rising global temperatures, contribute to skin irritation and accelerate skin aging.
LG introduces climate-adaptive cosmetics
LG Household & Health Care proposed a solution called “climate-adaptive cosmetics“. During the seminar, Executive Director Son Nam-Seo (손남서), head of the company’s Cosmetics Research Institute, remarked that “Our skin is directly exposed to extreme climatic conditions that have now become a global norm”. He added, “We will accelerate our research and development (R&D) efforts for ‘climate-adaptive beauty solutions’ that are capable of sensitively adapting to the changes brought about by global warming and, more broadly, for ‘sustainable beauty’ in harmony with the environment”.
LG Household & Health Care proceeded to introduce its first “climate-adaptive cosmetics”. The “true herb” cosmetic brand Belif, operated an experiential zone at the event where visitors could experience the brand’s “Aqua Bomb Frozen” line. The line features a moisturising cream formulated to address swelling and pore concerns resulting from skin heat, and it is scheduled to launch next month at Olive Young, a prominent Korean health and beauty retailer, as well as on Amazon, the largest online retailer in the United States.
