South Korea tops global rankings in hair loss cosmetic innovation

A new report from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) crowns South Korea as the world’s hair loss patent powerhouse, accounting for 42.9% of filings in key markets over the last 21 years.
South Korea’s leadership in hair loss patents:
According to a recent analysis conducted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), South Korea leads the world in hair loss cosmetic patents, accounting for 42.9% of filings in major countries from 2002 to 2023. Japan follows with 20.2%, the US with 17.2%, China at 8.9%, and Europe at 7.7%.

Pioneers of hair loss solutions:
Companies such as Caregen, with 115 patents, and Amorepacific, with 72 patents, are leading the way by drawing inspiration from both modern biotechnology and traditional remedies, including those documented in the Donguibogam.

KIPO notes that this positions South Korea as a key player in a global market projected to reach $26 billion (31 trillion KRW) by 2025.
